Description: Hyaluronic Acid is a cosmetic-grade powder (INCI: Sodium Hyaluronate), the salt form of hyaluronic acid used in skincare. It is a humectant: it draws water to the skin's surface and holds it there, giving a hydrated, plump-looking finish. Formulators use it in serums, creams, toners, mists and gel masks, and a small amount goes a long way, so a 10g pack makes several litres of serum. It is available in 10g, 20g and 50g, with 100g to 1kg on the Hyaluronic Acid Wholesale page.

Why It’s Special:

  • Hydrating Humectant: It draws water to the skin's surface and holds it there for a hydrated, plump-looking finish.
  • A Little Goes a Long Way: Typical use is just 0.1 to 1%, so one small pack makes a large volume of product.
  • Easy-to-Use Salt Form: Sodium hyaluronate dissolves more easily than hyaluronic acid itself and is the form used in almost all skincare.

How to Enjoy Hyaluronic Acid: Weigh the powder accurately; at these amounts a 0.01g scale is essential. Sprinkle it slowly over the surface of room-temperature distilled water while stirring, so it does not clump, then cover and leave for 2 to 4 hours, or overnight, until it is fully hydrated into a clear gel. Add the rest of your water-phase ingredients and a broad-spectrum preservative. Wetting the powder first with a little Glycerin before adding water helps prevent clumping. Why is my serum lumpy? The powder was added too quickly. Sprinkle it slowly while stirring, pre-wet it with glycerin, and give it time to fully hydrate. Prefer it ready-made? Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a ready-to-use base.

Creative Inspirations:

  • Hydrating Serums: Make a simple 1% serum (100g): 93.0g distilled water, 5.0g glycerin, 1.0g sodium hyaluronate and 1.0g preservative (or at the supplier's recommended rate).
  • Toners and Mists: Add 0.05 to 0.2% to a water-based toner or facial mist for a light, dewy finish.
  • Gel Masks and Eye Gels: Use 0.5 to 1% for a cushiony gel texture.

Key Insights:

  • Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate
  • INCI Name: Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Form and Solubility: White powder, water-soluble only. It belongs in the water phase.
  • Optimal Use: Serums 0.1 to 1%, creams and lotions 0.1 to 0.5%, toners and mists 0.05 to 0.2%, gel masks and eye gels 0.5 to 1%.
  • Texture: Hydrates into a clear gel. Above about 1%, serums turn thick and can feel tacky or pill under other products.
  • Shelf Life: Minimum 12 months unopened when stored as directed. Check the retest date on your COA.

Additional Information:

  • Storage: Keep tightly sealed in a cool, dry place. The powder absorbs moisture from the air, so close the bag straight after use.
  • Ethical Commitment: The Skin Science Company upholds cruelty-free standards. Our Hyaluronic Acid is not tested on animals.

Making It Work: How much hyaluronic acid should I use in a serum? 0.1 to 1% is the standard range, and most people start at 0.5%. Higher is not better. What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate? Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It dissolves more easily, and on a label it appears as Sodium Hyaluronate. Does it need a preservative? Yes. Any formula containing water needs a broad-spectrum preservative. To skip measuring one, replace the distilled water with our Distilled Water with Preservative, a pre-preserved base. Can I add it to an oil? No. It only dissolves in water, so it belongs in the water phase.
