Neem Oil
Description: Neem Oil is a cold-pressed plant oil (INCI: Azadirachta Indica Seed Oil) from the seeds of the neem tree. It is a thick, yellow-brown oil with a strong, earthy aroma that is characteristic of genuine neem, and it can partly solidify when cool. It has been used in skin and hair care for generations, particularly in India, and formulators use it at low levels in soaps, balms, hair oils and scalp blends, usually alongside milder oils and essential oils to balance the scent. Available in 100ml, 200ml and 500ml, with 1L and larger on our Neem Oil Wholesale page.
Why It’s Special:
- Traditional Ingredient: Used in skin and hair care for generations, particularly in India.
- Works at Low Levels: A small percentage brings neem into a formula without overpowering it.
- Soap and Balms: A popular addition to handmade soaps and body balms.
How to Enjoy Neem Oil: For a scalp oil, blend 1 part neem oil with 4 to 9 parts Jojoba Oil or Coconut Oil, massage into the scalp, leave for 30 minutes, then shampoo out. For a body balm, add 2 to 10% to a balm or salve base. Can I use neem oil on my face? Yes, diluted to 1 to 10% in a lighter oil. Why does neem oil smell so strong? The strong, garlic-like smell is natural and is a sign of genuine cold-pressed neem. Using it at low levels and blending it with essential oils such as Lavender Essential Oil, tea tree or peppermint keeps it pleasant. Suitable for most skin types; patch test first.
Creative Inspirations:
- Scalp and Hair Oils: Use at 5 to 20% in a carrier oil blend for the scalp and lengths.
- Handmade Soap: Add to your oil blend at 2 to 10% of the oils.
- Shampoos and Conditioners: Add at 1 to 5% for a traditional neem hair care product.
